I’ve been playing the piano / keyboards since the age of 5, and as soon as I was old enough (and still at school!), I started to earn my keep as a keyboard player.
At the age of 18, I moved down to London & became an Arranger/Musical Director for various acts, and at 19 I had my first big break. I was asked to join SIR CLIFF RICHARD’s band on his world tour as keyboard player (and later, Musical Director).
I said yes...!
After 18 months of touring, when life, literally, could-not-get-any-better…. it got better!
At 21, I was asked if I would like to produce a record, utilising a full orchestra, which was to be released as a single.
I said yes...!
Well....it didn’t go *too* badly for a first attempt - a UK CHRISTMAS #1, generating over 1.8 MILLION SALES. The songs title?! Well… it's probably sung along to in every household in the UK, every Christmas…! "MISTLETOE & WINE"
In spite of being totally convinced that this success was a one-off fluke, I continued along the path as a record producer - and at 23 produced a SECOND UK CHRISTMAS #1 - "SAVIOURS DAY", over 1 MILLION SALES - another hit…!
Next came another UK #1 SINGLE "GIVE ME LOVE" - Alexia, a UK #2 SINGLE then a further 14 TOP #30 SINGLES and a couple of #1 ALBUMS. (I even had a couple of years sitting on the EUROVISION SONG CONTEST selection panel - which was ....interesting!)
As a musician / record producer / engineer / arranger / programmer / remixer, I have worked on projects as diverse as NICOLE SCHERZINGER & THE PUSSYCAT DOLLS, through to STING, AMERICAN IDOLS’ CLAY AIKEN to SIR CLIFF RICHARD, GRAND MASTER FLASH to PETER ANDRE, TAMMY WYNETTE & KIRI TE KANAWA.
I also had the good fortune to sign my publishing to WARNER CHAPPELL in Los Angeles, take on a manager out there & spend a good chunk of time working & living in LA as well as the UK. Along the way, I managed to meet & work with some childhood hero’s & record in some of LA's legendary studios.
There did however come a point when I realised I needed a fresh challenge other than working solely in the record industry, so I turned my attention towards my ultimate passion from childhood, which was FILM SCORE & the craft of WRITING MUSIC TO PICTURE.
Over the next 15 years, this had me writing music in a very wide range of styles from ORCHESTRAL to GUITAR based to CUTTING EDGE SOUND DESIGN for TV COMMERCIALS, TV FACTUAL, TV DRAMA, MOTION PICTURE ADVERTISING, LIBRARY MUSIC, CHILDRENS TV for all major UK broadasters and around the world (see selective credits below).
Then, in 2008, I was honoured to receive from BASCA, a nomination for an IVOR NOVELLO AWARD in the BEST TELEVISION SOUNDTRACK category for my score on the BBC DRAMA – "WHO KILLED MRS DE ROPP?”. I was also invited to sit on the judging panels at BASCA for subsequent years - which was a real honour.
In 2010, a beautiful film I scored about the human spirit in a war zone & very close to my heart: "THE LOVE OF BOOKS: A SARAJEVO STORY” went on to win in its category at the 2011 BOSNIAN FILM FESTIVAL, snag a GRIERSON AWARD & be selected for an airing on the prestigious BBC4 STORYVILLE series.
And today....? I'm still as hooked as I was back when I was 18, currently working with RAW TV on the fifth season of their hit TV show PARANORMAL WITNESS for the SCIFI Channel, another project for the BBC NATURAL HISTORY UNIT called LE VILLAGE & completing an album for GUS POWELL - an amazing artist who has recently had song placements in US HIT TV SERIES' - 'BONES' & Sherlock Holmes spinoff 'ELEMENTARY' - now signed to my newly formed music company HALOGEN MEDIA. Big plans for 2017 - watch this space!!
I am truly grateful to be working within the industry which has given me so much, spending time working alongside amazingly talented people, doing the only thing I know how to do well - write & produce music.
I love being part of a creative team, love to collaborate, and always strive to give more than is asked of me - ultimately, to play my part in delivering your vision & getting our team over the finish line - no matter what gets in our way!
